 Appeal Court declares Police Act 2020 illegal, nullifies constable recruitment.. The Court of Appeal has declared the Police Act 2020 unconstitutional and void. The Police Act 2020, which was enacted in September this year, affects the constitutional mandate of the Police Service Commission The Appeal Court ruled that the provisions of the Act was in conflict with Paragraph 30 Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution “which empowers the commission to appoint persons into offices in the Nigeria Police Force except the Office of the Inspector-General of Police.” The judgment also nullified the recruitment of 10,000 constables carried out by the police authorities last year. However, the IG, Mohammed Adamu, has appealed the ruling which nullified the earlier order of the Federal High Court, Abuja. The PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement on Wednesday, explained that the details of the Appeal Court judgment was contained in the Certified True Copy received on Tuesday.

Disbanded SARS officers are barred from joining SWAT – Police say The Nigerian Police Force of Nigeria make clear announcement that officials from the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery squad (SARS) are also  ban from joining the new  set-up tactical unit, SWAT. One of the criteria for the selection of SWAT officers stipulates that they must not have worked for SARS, according to a memo that was shared by the Nigeria police force. Don’t invest any money into SWAT, end it now – Don Jazzy urges government. Don Jazzy has called for immediate cancellation of the newly  police unit, Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT). The new police unit is a replacement of the now resolve Special Anti-Robbery Squads (SARS), following  the nationwide protest against police brutality, extortion and harassment. Don Jazzy, speaking after the IG of Nigeria police force made  the announcement of SWAT, condemned the new unit as unnecessary and should be terminated with immediate effect to avoid unnecessary expenses in setting up the unit. They should just end this SWAT now before it starts o. “’Nobi’ tomorrow now they will say they spent money to do logo, spend money to do uniforms.   Breaking: IGP of Nigeria Police Force Sets up SWAT To Replace SARS.. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has set up a new Police outfit to take over from the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigerian Police Force. It is known as Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and will fill the gaps arising from the dissolution of the defunct SARS. Also, the IGP on Tuesday, 13th October, 2020, in accordance with Section 18 (10) of the Police Act 2020, ordered all personnel of the defunct SARS to report at the Force Headquarters, Abuja for debriefing, psychological and medical examination. A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba said, “The officers are expected to undergo this process as a prelude to further training and reorientation before being redeployed into mainstream policing duties”. The veteran singer mocked the calls for police reform by alleging that “reformed Boko Haram members” are same people being absorbed into the Nigerian army and police. The Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-olu  joined  Nigerians to protest against SARS and police brutality.   The Governor who had yesterday addressed angry youths took to Twitter to share photos today as he joined protesters to demand for a better police force in Nigeria.   He wrote:   "I joined the #ENDSARS protesters in Alausa and received a letter of their demands and once again I reiterated my support. I am now on my way to Abuja to meet with H.E Pres. @MBuhari and the goal of the conversation is clear.  

At least one police officer dies, others injured in accident in Akure. At least one police officer has died ,in car conveying multiple officers was involved in an accident today in Akure, Ondo, state. According to reports, the accident happened along Airport Road, Oba Ile, Akure, Ondo state. Unconfirmed reports blame the accident on overspeeding. Photos and videos from the scene show wounded officers lying on the road as locals tried to offer what help they can. At least one officer was lifeless, blood pouring out of his head.

 IG Of NPF Gave Davido Go Ahead To Set  Panel For SARS  Officers... Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido IG of NPF grant him permission to set up an independent evaluation panel that will be looking into the affairs of SARs officers. This is coming after the singer met with the Inspector-General of police in Abuja on the 12th of October, 2020 following the ongoing protest against police harassment and brutality. In the outcome of the meeting, Davido is granted the go-ahead to set up an independent panel that will be evaluating and investigating the unit of police – Special Anti-Robbery Squads,  SARs .
